چکیده

ÐFunctional dependencies (FDs) and inclusion dependencies (INDs) are the most fundamental integrity constraints that arise in practice in relational databases. In this paper, we address the issue of normalization in the presence of FDs and INDs and, in particular, the semantic justification for Inclusion Dependency Normal Form (IDNF), a normal form which combines Boyce-Codd normal form with the restriction on the INDs that they be noncircular and key-based. We motivate and formalize three goals of database design in the presence of FDs and INDs: noninteraction between FDs and INDs, elimination of redundancy and update anomalies, and preservation of entity integrity. We show that, as for FDs, in the presence of INDs being free of redundancy is equivalent to being free of update anomalies. Then, for each of these properties, we derive equivalent syntactic conditions on the database design. Individually, each of these syntactic conditions is weaker than IDNF and the restriction that an FD not be embedded in the righthand side of an IND is common to three of the conditions. However, we also show that, for these three goals of database design to be satisfied simultaneously, IDNF is both a necessary and sufficient condition. Justi cation for Inclusion Dependency Normal Form

Functional dependencies (FDs) and inclusion dependencies (INDs) are the most fundamental integrity constraints that arise in practice in relational databases. In this paper we address the issue of normalisation in the presence of FDs and INDs and in particular the semantic justiication for Inclusion Dependency Normal Form (IDNF), a normal form which combines Boyce-Codd normal form with the rest...

Logical Database Design with Inclusion Dependencies

Contrary to popular belief, relation schemes in good classical normal forms are not necessarily devoid of redundancies. This arises from the fact that classical data dependencies are oblivious to important constraints which may exist between sets of attributes occuring in different relation schemes. In this paper, we study how inclusion dependencies (INDs) can be used to model these constraints...

A Consideration on Normal Form of Not-Necessarily-Normalized Relation in the Relational Data Model

In this paper definitions of unnormalized relation, functional dependency on it and Normal Form are presented. The Normal Form plays a key role in our relational data model in which unnormalized relations are admitted as does the Third Normal Form of Codd in the data model of normalized relation. Properties pertaining to Normal Form are discussed emphasizing comparison with 3NF along with analy...

Database Decomposition into Fourth Normal Form

We present an algorithm that decomposes a database scheme when the dependency set contains functional and multivalued dependencies. The schemes in the resulting decomposition are in fourth normal form and have a lossless join. Our algorithm does not impose restrictions on the allowed set of dependencies, and it never requires the computation of the full closure of the dependency set. Furthermor...

A Comparative Examination of Maladaptive Schemas in Sex Addicts and Normal Individuals

Objective: Sexual addiction is a psychiatric disorder with unpleasant personal, inter-personal, legal, social, and physical outcomes for the patients. The cycle of this disorder is based on a false belief system known as early maladaptive schemas. This study aimed to examine and compare maladaptive cognitive schemas in sex addicts and normal people. Methods: In the present study, a causal-comp...
